Welcome to PASTimes, a new blog devoted to historical fiction. I'm Cindy Thomson, your host this week. Six writers will host PASTtimes, a different writer each week. This week I'm up. Next week J. M. Hochstetler will blog followed by Tiff Miller, Jill Eileen Smith, Beth Goddard, and Tricia Goyer. The variety will be enlightening since each host brings a variety of skills and interests to the mix. Expect to find interviews with authors and other publishing industry experts, book reviews, discussions on various historical genres: fantasy, romance, mystery, Biblical, and more. We will also talk about research, something that is important in all fiction writing, but especially so in historical fiction. Some of your hosts are published authors, but even those who have yet to land a publishing contract are well connected, excellent researchers, and just all around great ladies. The blog was discussed and planned for weeks in advance to bring you the best information we can.
Who am I? That's a fair question. I'm a full time writer with an interest in history and passing down legacies left to us. This is best done, in my humble opinion, in story form. My first historical novel, Brigid of Ireland, was published earlier this year. Another book I co-authored Three Finger: The Mordecai Brown Story with my cousin, will be released later this year.
FREE BOOK: We'll be giving a book away (a special this week: two books, novels from Tricia Goyer and J.M. Hochstetler). To be eligible, post a comment this week. We'll draw two winners on Saturday from the list. (That's one book each to two people.)
We'd love to hear what you would like to see covered on PASTimes. Please post a comment and let us know what you think.
Tomorrow: Drop by for an interview with Christy Award winning author Ann Tatlock.
Later this week I'll direct you to some research tips left on another blog by a well published author, talk about the interest in historical topics today, and explore genealogy research and how it sparks the public's interest in history.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cindy

Best wishes on the new venture! I love the look of your new blog. Went to an Indians/Cubs game last week and thought of you. Still rooted for the Indians--sorry.
Smiles, Karen
I'm thrilled to see this blog because I've been priviledged to watch Cindy blossom as a writer and because many people are fascinated with historical fiction so the blog will meet a need. There are interesting, skilled writers hosting PASTtimes and I hope many visitors will be entertained, educated, and encouraged!
I like the "looks" of this blog too - very interesting graphics.
Jill Eileen told me about your new historical fiction blog. I love it! I'm looking forward to learning from all of you and from your guests. :-)
This looks like it will be great fun. I will bookmark the site and visit often.

Blog looks great! I'm looking forward to visiting and reading the posts. I'm enjoying getting acquinted with historical fiction again. I used to read it all the time but now haven't read as much. I think that's going to change real soon.
I'm bookmarking this site. I love historical fiction (and run a historical ficiton reading group), so you know I'll be interested in reading whatever comes along here. Good luck! The site looks marvelous.
I smell a "favorite blog" coming into being!
As for articles, I'd love to see posts on research tips, particularly links to online sources.
Welcome to the historical fiction blogosphere! I found your new blog via Cindy's post on the Historical Novel Society e-list. Looks great, and I look forward to reading more.
Hi! I will definitely be revisiting this site. I'm working on a medieval romance set in Germany in the late 14th century, and it's NOT EASY researching 14th century Germany! I'm looking forward to your advice on doing research.

I was just told about this site from JM Hochstetler. I love reading historical fiction, and have experimented with writing it, and I'm excited about joining this and learning more about other authors.
Wow! The first day, and already we have 10 comments. Fantastic! When Cindy first came up with the idea, I knew it would take off. I'm honored to be one of the hosts and look forward to interacting with everyone here as well as bringing fresh insights during my hosting week.
Who knows? Maybe my involvement will finally lead to that first book contract. :) For now, I have my articles, short stories and book contributions keeping me going.

What a great new blog! I've added it to my bloglines feed :-)
I love historical fiction, and greatly look forward to learning more about the process of turning solid research into a compelling story.
Blessings,
Sheryl
Best wishes on your blog launch!
Anything that promotes historical fiction is great by me. Well done.
I'll put this in my favourites.
I read about this blog-in-the-making on JM Hochstetler's website some time ago, and got an email alert from her this morning. I've added this blog to my daily round. I can never get enough of talking about historicals and research (since I'm writing one, too), so this looks like a great place to hang out. Thanks to all of you who are hosting! See ya around the comments link!

I'll be looking at this frequently, and commenting sometimes!
I found your blog via the Historical Novel Society Yahoo group. Good luck! I'll visit often.
I would like to know how you obtained a picture of my "to read" pile.
Just found your blog through B. J. Hoff's Grace Notes. I've already subscribed through Bloglines. As a historical fiction writer myself, I'm excited about this blog's future.
One thing I'd like to see covered is the unique challenges of presenting historical novels/series to publishers via queries or proposals.
Can't wait to read more from you all!! Love, love Historical Fiction! Am looking forward to discovering some more new authors to me!
